Privacy Policy
The short version: this is a static website. We don’t track you, set no cookies, run no analytics, and send no data to third-party CDNs. The detail below explains exactly what that means under the GDPR.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

2. Overview — what we do not do
This site is intentionally privacy-minimal. It does not:
- set any cookies;
- use Google Analytics or any other analytics or tracking service;
- load fonts, scripts, or other resources from third-party CDNs (fonts are self-hosted on our own server);
- embed third-party trackers, advertising, or social-media pixels;
- provide accounts or logins, or transmit personal reading-note text to a server.
Because no cookies or tracking technologies are used, no cookie-consent banner is required.
Personal source reading notes
The Source Library offers optional personal notes. Typing creates a current-page draft; only Save note writes its text to this browser’s localStorage, under a separate key for each source ID. We do not upload this text or add it to research URLs, catalogue search, editorial reading-list/queue/comparison exports or printed pages. It does not change evidence assessments. There is no account synchronization. Storage is not encrypted; anyone with access to this browser profile may be able to read it. Avoid entering sensitive information on a shared device.
Download personal notes includes all current note drafts, even for hidden or unqueued sources. It creates a readable TXT file, not an import format. If you share that file, you share its personal text. Unsaved drafts disappear when you leave or reload; saved notes remain until you delete them or the browser clears site data. Keep a download if you need a backup.
Download personal notes JSON provides an importable, versioned backup of all current note text and source edition IDs, including blanks and hidden drafts. It does not include unreadable saved bytes. Choosing a file only prepares a local, read-only preview: confirmation replaces the listed current-page drafts, not saved records or other notes. Choose each source’s Save note separately to retain restored drafts after leaving. Files stay on your device; there is no upload or automatic save. Downloaded JSON contains personal text too: sharing it shares that text, and deleting a browser note does not delete backup files. The import limit is 2 MiB; unsupported or invalid records reject the whole preview without partial adoption.
Open the source’s personal-note disclosure and choose Delete personal note to remove that source’s saved record and current draft after confirmation, including an unreadable saved record. Cancelling retains both. Other sources, queues and unrelated browser preferences are not deleted. Saving a blank note instead stores an explicitly empty record; deletion removes its key. You can also clear this site’s data in browser settings, which may remove other site preferences. Neither action deletes downloaded copies or notes stored in another browser profile or device; delete those separately. We cannot erase a browser-local note for you by e-mail.
Read/write/delete failures are reported without automatically retrying a mutation, and current drafts are retained for download. Observed tab changes are protected, including changes detected during a deletion confirmation, but localStorage is not transactional: avoid simultaneous editing in several tabs. A failed save is not a backup, and these guards cannot guarantee an atomic cross-tab deletion.
3. Server log files (hosting)
This website is served as static files by a hosting provider. When you visit the site, your browser automatically transmits certain information that the hosting provider’s servers may record in log files for security and technical-operation purposes, in particular:
- your IP address (often shortened/anonymised by the provider),
- the date and time of the request,
- the page/file requested,
- the referring URL, and the browser type/version and operating system (user agent).
The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the secure and stable provision of the website). This data is not merged with other data sources and is not used to identify you personally. Where a hosting provider acts on our behalf, a data-processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place. Depending on the chosen host, server processing may occur within the EU/EEA or, where a provider operates globally, under appropriate safeguards (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses).
4. Contact by e-mail
If you contact us by e-mail (e.g. at mail@pykez.com), the data you provide (your e-mail address and the content of your message) will be processed solely to handle your enquiry, on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR. We delete such data once it is no longer required and no statutory retention obligations apply.
5. External links
This site links to external websites. Once you follow such a link, this privacy policy no longer applies; the data-protection practices of the linked site’s operator govern instead. We have no influence over, and accept no responsibility for, the data processing of third-party sites.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have, in respect of your personal data, the right to:
- access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), and erasure (Art. 17);
- restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21);
- withdraw any consent given, with effect for the future.
To exercise these rights, contact mail@pykez.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR) — in our case, the data protection authority of the state of Hesse (Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).
7. Updates
We may update this policy to reflect changes to the site or to legal requirements. The current version always applies and is published on this page.
