Lost Atlantis (Part 6 skipped for Part 7 due to what mostly has been
covered with Butavand's Atlantis, Bryant.) by E. Sykes, both are summaries.
Bryant mentions the Atlanteans had 1,200 ships, and a well-stocked
army into the thousands. It also proves that even at 9,600 B.C. there was other
cultures for which Atlanteans built an army to keep protection from. If any
culture were not advanced to the atlanteans, the mere presence of a harpoon, or
lance point as a weapon was still enough to fear. It is clear the bow and arrow
were well within their grasp, and we can suppose at this time the atl-atl arrow
thrower was perfected by them. If we took the size of Atlantis in Plato's
literal description and placed it on the Atlantic the dimensions of it would be
as follows:
9 degrees east all the way to 50 degrees west of longitude, and 10
degrees south up to 52 degrees north of latitude. This means a region below the
gold coast Africa almost to
What is even more revealing is that the 5th year to an
ancient Egyptian would be called a pentade year not a seven year or seven day
system. It would seem that the Mayan calendar worked on a pentade counting
system with almost a 6 times the whatever number counting system when looking
at a 52 year cycle. Instead of a representative elected for four years, they
only met once every 5 years and can explain some of the rebellions that later
may have ensued. Also, they would in a ritual at that time capture a bull by no
weapon but snare and noose method only, which brings to mind a primitive rodeo
show concept. The bull, or a bear would be tied to the column of the laws and
would teased and jeered to death since the pole was the symbol of judgement and
the center of their polar sky. They mimicked their notions of the sky as on
earth, as it is above so it is below thinking. The implication involves what is
not said which includes a form of sympathetic magic that politically went
astray and overly substituted. They would however do one thing democratic,
after the sacrifices, they would at night gather in azure robes and discuss
laws and judgements to be written in the following morning deposited at the
temples.
Webmasters Note-This would make one think it is not your usual camp
fire outing. They may have soothsayers at their disposal looking at the sky for
oracle circumstance, as a shooting star from this spot to another might make
the difference, or reading the fire might receive an answer? The idea of bull
sacrifice lends itself to the Jewish confusion like Baal later, and the
importance of vernal equinox seems to be clear with the Pleiades in sight by
Taurus.
Butavand's Atlantis, "La Veritable
Histoire de l'Atlantide" 1925
The main premise is that Atlantis sank of the coast of Tunisia and he
included a map of it on the east side of Tunisia's present shoreline. The
section shows Atlantis as smaller then Plato's description with cape Neptune
and Kerkenna Island marked, to the north just west of Sicily the region called
Pluto and to the south of his Tunisia Atlantis is a region called Ammon. In
regards to this Marcellus speaks of ten islands situated in the Atlantic Ocean
close to Europe, he says, "seven were consecrated to Pluto (husband of
Proserpina, as Lord and Lady of the Under World, Hades etc. implying that eight
of the islands were volcanic in character), another to Ammon, and the third, a
thousand stadia long (about 114 miles) to Poseidon." It would seem that
more likely it is a reference to the Canary group of islands, but the best part
of the referance involves Queen Myrina of the Amazons when she drove the atlanteans
to take refuge in their city called Cercennes, and I find on this map by
Butavand's the still exisiting Island of Kerkenna. Cercenne-s=Kerkenna-s
Island? The only conclusion is that it involves a lost Tunisian land, or it was
a Atlantis expanded Colonial City and the Amazons pushed them out of the
western part of the Sahara. One side point. Within the last few years (1955),
traces of a city has been found off the island of Djerba (Tunisia coast area),
where history itself formerly planted a city, that of Lotus Eaters, and in all
probablitiy consecrated to Ammon of the Egyptian Thegory. Those who ate it were
known as Lotophagi, and only gods, aristocracy, and particians only had choice
of using. It is likely there is more than one city that lies , the Gulf of Tunis,
Gabes, and Tripoli, and the Maltese Group. The area may have been a slow loss
to the sea not sudden, and even back to the era of the Trojan Wars Ulysses had
difficulties in thes waters due to the shallow nature of it in parts for a
deeper ballast ship. The Amazons who supposedly conquered some of these areas
also went after the Numidian-Ethiopian tribes of west Africa. They advanced
Northwards into the Atlas range, in this manner, marching eastwards also,
driving as already stated the Eastern so-called Atlanteans into their capital
of Cercennes the island Kerkenna near Tunis, the amazon title of the Queen
Merina is not as far as known listed in the topography of the region? These are
based on writings of Herodotus and Diodorus, which the great city of the
Amazons, founded and built by them in the marshes of Lacus Tritonides on the
western shores of Morocco, and called by either themselves of Greek
transcribers the City of the Peninsula. A term hellenized in and by the
geographical term 'chersonesus' i.e. Horn (shape) Island has been placed by
some in the mythical or mystical Island of Hesperia and might be the same place
as Cerne which is also translated "Horn" and can be equated with our
own Cornwall, from which it is plain the earliest geographies considered it
horn shaped.
Webmasters Note- One interesting future use of the name was
used by none other than Thomas Jefferson in his laying out of what our State
domains would be after the Louisiana Purchase. He called the land between Grand
Rapids to Sarnia, Michigan and then northwards from the Grand Rapids Line all
the way to Luce and Chippewa County of the Upper Peninsula Michigan with our
present Michigan State lands eastwards from those said points as
Cherronesus=chersonesus of the Hellenes name.
The change he used was the emphasis on Huron of the Indians (which he
knew was a Greek northern region of Hyracan, Herrane, and Huronia) and replaced
the son with the ron name in the middle. He was connecting also Sarnia name
with Cerne name and thus made the connection of a old description of 'Horn'
peninsula region as a Hellenistic would. He also used Illinoia for the region
of a part of Illinois our modern state which this implied not for the Indian
sake but Greek association of Hrrenia as another variation of the same regional
group. It would seem that he is indirectly saying the Amazons had some
references to it and that He was indirectly calling Michigan the Island of
Hesperia in so doing. The description is in a certain way appropriate, marsh
back lands of blueberries, the Upper Peninsula Marshes, and the fabled region
of copper, and low quality gold, as well as fur. In a good portion of Wisconsin
and Michigan are reed plants, and the Chippewa collected Rice in the marshy
setting. Though Jefferson was never there when he reasoned with the Huron
Indian name it got him looking for an explanation of such a Greek name? 'Horn'
a variation of a misnomer of Huron became for him a conclusion. It indicates a
very well read man in the Greek and Roman culture of his day.
Cont.
I find the Amazons of Herodotus are closely associated with the
Scythians (Hyracan) of North Western Asia whilst the Gorgons are referred to
him as of African origin. Yet, he does not speak in the same way as Diodorus
who of course dates over 400 years later, i.e. of the Wars of the Atlanteans
and Amazons. Thus, we might draw the conclusion that this war between them, had
taken place during the above interval. But, in this event, we should have to
reconsider the whole question for Homer who dates about 800 to 900 B.C. speaks
of Amazons, Gorgons, Mt. Atlas, Perseus, Heracles, etc. almost all in the same
breath as though all were more, or less coeral, and it might have been so! The
period of occupancy and settlement of North and North West Africa by the
Carthaginians of Hanno from Carthage, we firmly persuaded was a short one
dating approximately between 500 B.C. and 160 B.C. and no trace of any of them
lingers in history, nor even is the date of their destruction at the hands of
invaders from the hinterland beyond the coast known. All we can be certain of
is that they completely vanished from history. The most famous Cerne, may have
been amoung those Atlantean Cities overthrown by Queen Myrina of the Amazons,
and we always have to distinguish between the Island of Cerne and its adjoining
and part-encircling coast of the mainland. It was on this Island I have
understood, that Hanno put a colony to occupy it as a trading post, and I may
be in error, but I think that on the mainland adjacent was a race already
living as nomads! It would then be that these Nomads were of the Amazon
territory to the South West of the Atlas Range and their domains ranged far
south, into the present province of Sus. In regards to the late findings by the
mythographers from 444 to 8 B.C. leads us into the question. Did Diodorus
Siculus find his story from some forgotten Carthaginian record?
Webmaster Note- Cerne is a name one should look with caution, there
are not less then 10 Cerne names in major geography locations, it became sometimes
overly used. The main factor of the name origins has always been associated
with the regions of the eastern Atlantic Coasts from England all the way to
west Africa. It is also the name of a deity of the Cerne the horned god,
related to the Atlantean Chronos and Hern both a very early personage in the
Pre-Hercules related myths. Even names like Khoron, and Horan were
inter-changeable from culture to culture as Karian is to Harian. The reason can
be found in the Greek, Egyptian, and Crete problem of making the 'Kh' silent
like in Khnossos ('Nossos'). It in some cases on the Atlantic coast softened
the sound 'Cerne' as Serne. The Greeks would in some area pronounce the Kh and
in others closer to Crete would drop it. The Egyptians however in most case preferred
the hard 'KH' form found in the god Khonsu name as evidence. The explanation is
that the Akadians and Celtic liked the harder sounds generally if used in a
word. Overtime there are juxtapositions.
Another note is the tale of Meropes known as a geographical point on
England's Land End with its Islands- the tale goes that Meropes of old, not the
newer version, moved into the Hyperborean region possibly old Lyonesses, but
had to move south because of the glacial cold into France and Spain were this group
was wiped out by the groups already living there. There is also one side note
that the period of this group corresponds with megalithic building found off
the coast of England and on the Peninsula of France in Brittany. Meropes is a
name that given to not one but two personages, like Cheops name was. The older
made in comparison much larger monuments, and the one after made a smaller
attempt. Both to be connected as to a similar in attempt in the character of
this type of monument presented to the local culture. The original Meropes was
a giant, and the newer one was a King from Sudan probably several thousands of
years later, what they had in common symbol wise was 'twin cult and sky
worship'. Greeks claim as Meropes from the City of Machimos (The Mazma of
Spain) as the older one?
As far as Athena , the Egyptian name was Ha-Ten-Ha from the A-then-a
name which two variations cannot be overlooked Ha-Ha-Ti (n) or Isis and
Nephthys (Haiti) and in North West Africa of the lady whose remains were
discovered in 1932 by Count Byron as Tin-Hana (Ti (n)- Ha-(n)-Ha?). It seems
Tin or Tem and Isis are always close by, Thames River? In Haiti there is a
reference to Semitic like speech with the Haiti aborigines when first
discovered. Chois referred to a mysterious land called Meropis-es-Opsis (which
looks like Mississippi) which 'One-Eyed' (Greek-minner) Cyclopes may well be
'Men of the Sea', which Is-es, and Opsis is Isis and Hapi the Osiris, Bull God
in Egyptian. Men of the Sea-Bull would be interesting.
In Conclusion of Lost Atlantis, Bryant and Egerton Sykes (a very
brief summary)
The first region to go was those lands closest to the poles, then the
lands of Atlantis southern and eastern region came next. The sinking of
Llyonesse and off the coast of Spain may have preceded the rest of Atlantis by
a thousand years.
Webmasters Note- this may somewhat explain the successive waves
of culture and historical types into the Basque regions and the progressive
decline of cyclopean masonry on the coast, which kept moving into the direction
of the inner Mediterranean. Malta shows another kind of invasion showing the
further reduction of cyclopean masonry.
